When you place the tablet in water, a redox reaction occurs between the magnesium, acidic additives and water. The process is as follows:

Mg + 2H₂O → Mg(OH)₂ + H₂

This reaction splits water (H₂O) into hydrogen gas (H₂) and magnesium hydroxide (Mg(OH)₂). The hydrogen gas is released as molecular hydrogen and dissolves in the water, enriching it with hydrogen-rich water.

Once the tablet is dissolved, the resulting water becomes infused with hydrogen molecules.

While water (H2O) naturally consists of two hydrogen atoms bonded to one oxygen atom, hydrogen-rich water contains additional dissolved hydrogen gas.
